Ties

100 days. It’s mostly arbitrary, I just didn’t think 78 Days of Less had the same ring to it, but that a number exists is important. It gives me a hard deadline and manageable chunks.

It was easy enough to foresee days like today. I woke up, had lunch, drove 6 hours, and now I need to get rid of something before I can pass out. Having 100 days to play with makes it easy to “waste” days, if you will, on stupid shit. Need a post in 20 minutes? The words are often kept short, there’s just one picture to move from the camera to the computer with minimal editing (resize, rotate, levels). I just have to stand in the middle of my room and look around until I spot something absolutely ridiculous. Such as:

Two neckties

What I did not anticipate: The opposite days.

There are occasions, such as two days ago, when I’m over it. Not the getting rid of everything, the doing it so slowly. I want to say, “Fuck this. 41 Days of Less. Tomorrow everything goes in my car and I push it off a cliff.”

But it isn’t realistic, and may be impossible. You could surely buy everything you or I own in the course of a single day, but good luck trying to get rid of it in the same amount of time.

One Response to “Ties”

Hey I’ve been decluttering for 8 years and counting now. Many times I prayed my apartment (only mine) and everything in it would just burn to the ground already, but I like your pushing it all off a cliff instead.
