Nikons of Yore

There are two distinct but related items today. The first is rather unexciting. Located at picture bottom, the box to a Nikon Coolpix SQ. This little square fucker with a swivel lens/flash, making it stupid easy to take pictures of somebody while making it look like you’re just checking the screen.

Got that stalkers of the world? The Nikon Coolpix SQ is for you.

Unfortunately, the camera is a brick and I can’t even find the damn thing. The box contains documentation, some wires, and the charging base. Woo-frickin-hoo.

Nikon Coolpix 990 and the box to a Coolpix SQ

But if you take a gander towards picture top you’ll notice a completely different camera. That, boys and girls, is a Nikon Coolpix 990. It was originally my mom’s first digital camera, then became mine, and has since faded into distant memory.

This thing was mind-fuckingly awesome when it came out. 3.34 megapixels?!?! Holy crap. Now the battery door is broken (I believe this was common to the model) and you have to duct tape the fucking thing closed if you want the camera to stay on. Oh yea, battery door…it takes 4 AAs. That’s fucking space-age NASA style shit.

And yes, this one does work. I just snapped a couple photos to test it out. You get to keep those for free, my gift. That is, if you can find something that will read the cell-phone sized 256MB Compact Flash card it uses.
